About Forth Valley Chorus

Forth Valley Chorus (FVC) started in 1987 with 8 just members. In 2022, our 35th year, we  have 100 members.

Our name was chosen to reflect our membership of women of all ages and backgrounds, from all over Central Scotland, Fife, Tayside, Aberdeen and the Scottish Borders; but our membership now extends to ladies from all over the world.

Forth Valley Chorus is affiliated to  Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organisation of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Forth Valley Chorus takes the advancement of singing and performance capabilities quite seriously; our commitment, enjoyment and enthusiasm are evident; and our welcoming friendship is renowned. In recent years the challenge has to been to keep singing and to maintain our enjoyment and singing skills until the time we could be back on the risers.

We got back to normal on the risers in March 22. All our hard work throughout lockdown paid off and we were delighted to win our regional competition in Warwick in May.

Of course, as a fun group of 100+ women, we are always interested in those important matters for every event - “what are we singing and wearing?”

We can put together groups of various sizes if you were interesting in hiring us for your special occasion.

In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we receive coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.

Forth Valley Chorus regularly competes in our Region's (UK & Netherlands) annual chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories are invited to compete in the International Competition, which is held in autumn in the USA each year.

Forth Valley Chorus has won the Regional Competition 8 times, and are currently making plans around  the International Competition in Louisville Kentucky 2023.

Our Region is one of the highest achieving Regions worldwide and we look forward to the exciting challenge every time we compete.

Quartets & Small Groups

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets and small groups in addition to singing with the chorus. Forth Valley Chorus is home to a number of wonderful quartets and small groups, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartets & small group section to learn more.
